Introduce Your Bill
How can you influence your government?
Intro: You and your group have just been hired by a “Special Interest Group” called L.B.W.C. (Living Better in Washoe County) to help lobby their cause at the Local, State and or Federal government level. As a newly hired lobbyist your employer (The L.B.W.C.) needs you to research the needs of the Washoe County community and develop a Bill that would have a positive impact in the community. After presenting a Bill proposal to the L.B.W.C. you must then create an argumentative Letter & a multimedia product presenting your Bill.
Group and individual requirements include:
- Argumentative Essay will be written persuading a law maker (a Legislative member) to Sponsor your Bill.
- A rough draft Argumentative Essay will be written by each member of the group individually.
- A final draft of the Argumentative Essay will be a collaborative piece made up of the group’s rough draft Essay.
- A Multimedia Presentation (Persuasive Product) that will help persuade a legislative member to further your Bill and sponsor it through the Bill process. Persuasive Product options:
- Prezi
- Power Point
- Website
- Photo Story (slide show)
- Video Commercial
- Public Service Announcement
- Audience identifier worksheet. Within this worksheet you must …
- identify your legislative audience (which legislative member would most likely help sponsor the Bill) and which legislative committee will your Bill fit into.
- identify those individuals who will benefit from the Bill. Such as; the Elderly, Women, Children, Men, Small Business, Big Business, Homeless individuals, Uninsured Individuals, etc.
- Benefits must be listed for each group.
- identify possible critics of the Bill.
- Explanation of the critic must be listed
